Blue-striped Spreadwing, first (?) Texas record - Lestes tenuatus - Male
Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
August 15, 2000
I took this photo while doing my dissertation field work. For years, I used it in powerpoints, identified as L. australis. Then, when Martin Reid posted photos of L. tenuatus that he and Dennis Paulson had discovered at Santa Ana NWR on September 17-18 2008, something went off in my head, and I went back and looked at this photo again. Then I sent it to Dennis. Sure enough, same species!
