I guess it's the coloration that threw me. The ones I've seen before have been yellow on the outside wings. Thanks!

It threw me at first, too. I kept looking at several possibilities based on color and range, then I came across a picture in one of my guide books that looks exactly like your photos. All of the fiery skippers that I've seen in the yard this year are much more yellow with less evident pattern on the wings. I think that yours might be a female, but I'm not certain.
