the darkest species in the genus, widespread in the eastern states but rather rare

To me it looks more like
O. coquebertii (although darker than most of those in the Guide):



That's not an ID, of course. I'm just guessing for fun while we wait for Dr. Hamilton to tell us what it really is. :)
