Pipevine Swallowtail larva - Battus philenor

Pipevine Swallowtail larva - Battus philenor
Gainesville, Florida, USA
June 25, 2004
Raised in captivity. I witnessed the egg being laid, and in trying to determine what plant it was on I accidentally severed the stem. I put the stem in water and a few days later the egg hatched and the larva has been living in my bathroom since then, with fresh supplies of its host plant (Aristolochia serpentaria) provided daily. About six days old in this shot.
