Curculionidae
According to the
guide
, Platypodidae is now considered not a separate family but a subfamily (Platypodinae) of Curculionidae.

Not really an error
These changes in nomenclature [family vs. subfamily] seem to happen on a regular basis - will probably go back to being treated as a family in 20 yrs. I would have said this is Platypus w/o question, but it appears new genera have been proposed for at least some of our spp., like
Myoplatypus
in the
FAMILY
Platypodidae! This is of course at odds with the volumes selected as a standard for Bugguide nomenclature, so ...
Great work.

no more Platypus in NA
Replaced for the NA fauna with four genera (Wood 1993) - from the key in American Beetles, it appears that it might be easier to key to species and place to genus after that! Still only about a half dozen spp. in subfamily.
