Cecropia moth cocoon - Hyalophora cecropia -
Hyalophora cecropia
Van Buren County, Arkansas, USA
October 15, 2008
Size: 4"
It was completely covered in pear leaves, my fingertip nearby. I didn't know if whoever lived there ate pears or not.

Cocoon
Looks like a cecropia moth cocoon
Hyalophora cecropia
, and you wouldn't of harmed it by opening the leaves, and this species does eat pear leaves.
