I notice a good many slow-moving, dark, beetle-like mites that seemed to be inhabiting the ciid burrows and/or the burrows of these larvae. I think you can see some in this image. This might represent yet another mite/beetle relationship, as I have only found these mites in fungi containing ciids. I can see far more detail through my loupe than my lens/camera picks up. The fungus bore a few other mite species and various small maggots as well as larger beetle larvae.

I am coming to an appreciation of the number of species that make a living off dead shelf fungi.
