I'm pretty sure this is a Smith's Darkwing, Neadysgonia smithii, #8726. I noticed that no one from Texas has submitted one to your database yet so voila. Lovely moth. :) Wanda

Habitat?
Neadysgonia smithii looks good but I'm not sure the recently discovered
Neadysgonia telma
can be eliminated.
What was the habitat? Per info at ZooKeys 39 (2010), good images are included,
here
:
Neadysgonia telma
occurs in swamp forests where there is standing water. In this habitat red maples tend to dominate emergent forests whereas mature forests are more mixed with cypress often the dominant large tree...
Neadysgonia smithii
occurs in open savanna and mesic woodland habitats...

habitat
We do not have any bottomland habitat--all upland pines and mixed hardwoods. Does that help?

It Helps
I think that makes
N. smithii
more likely.

yes
your ID appears to be correct and since, thus far, we only have submissions for Georgia, your TX submission is nice to add to the mix
