Size: around 10 mm?

I was going to look this up, but I'm sure there are a few people out there that will know this immediately.

Same specimen as?

It looks like it--they are not currently linked.

I missed a lot of stuff during the warm spell--now there won't be much insect activity for the week of cool weather. Spring is just too fast some times.

These are both great shots!

I'm an amature, not the expert mentioned. But to me these both look like Uloma sp. Dillon lists oad and beech as hosts for U. impressa, and while a little smaller, U. punctulata is found beneath pine and "more frequent in the sounthern states". But I believe there are several other U sp. (Downie & Arnett) and I'm just not the one to get you much further.

See genus page

There are now some links to useful keys, etc. on the genus page, including a species list for North Carolina. I believe Darkling Beetles of Florida (1) has a key, but it may not be doable from one photograph.

No, sorry, I have no idea. They look roughly similar, that is all--I was not looking at any details. I'm not familiar with the other beetles at all--you should leave this one there for one of the experts!
