Moths » Owlet Moths » Euclidia cuspidea - Euclidia cuspidea
Sawyerville, Quebec, Canada
June 21, 2003
Looks to be common on the area in grass fields I just saw it again today
Looks like a mini Catocala or Cryptocala

Toothed Somberwing
Your noctuid is a Toothed Somberwing, Euclidia cuspidea
(see http://www.ndsu.edu/pubweb/~gefauske/ndmoths/names/8731.htm)
There's also an image on the Moths of Canada Web site:
http://www.cbif.gc.ca/spp_pages/noctuoidea/imagelibrary/enoct1a_e.php#1
We find them very distracting on our Butterfly Counts this time of year, as they look a lot like Duskywings when they fly.

Moved to guide,
so you might want to edit your title. Thanks for the links, Carolyn, which I have also added to the info page.
