I think this might be Sphinx drupiferarum, but it is eating a cherry tomato, not a cherry tree and it is eating in the afternoon, not dusk!

He's real purty, but they still creep me out ;P

It is a Tobacco Hornworm
Manduca sexta. In much of the country these are more common on Tomatoes than are the "proper" (and closely related) Tomato Hornworm.
