Red Ant - Aphaenogaster tennesseensis - Female
Hopkins Gap, Little North Mountain, Rockingham County, Virginia, USA

Size: ~8 mm
This red ant was attacking a cockroach on a fallen log. She was quickly joined by others, and the cockroach was hauled into their nest in the log (minus a leg or two.)

Looks like Aphaenogaster tennesseensis to me.
