Hornworm or Sphinx? - Ceratomia undulosa

Hornworm or Sphinx? - Ceratomia undulosa
Tuckahoe River, Queen Anne's County, Maryland, USA
September 12, 2010
Size: around 2"
A fairly large specimen, smooth skinned.
Did not assume the classic "Sphinx pose" when disturbed.
Not sure of the species of host tree so I attached a photo of the leaves.

Sphinx
Looks like the larvae of the waved sphinx, Ceratomia undulosa. The hostplant appears to be ash, one of the hosts of the waved sphinx.
