Strange caterpillar? -

Size: 2 1/2 inches maybe?
Found on a tomato plant.
Some type of caterpillar or larva-but what is on its back? A parasite? Some type of Insects? A fungus? Eggs?

looks like
Carolina Sphinx - Hodges#7775 (Manduca sexta) and those are wasp coccons, its dying..you can see where some allready hatched
