digger wasp - Euodynerus annulatus - female

digger wasp - Euodynerus annulatus - Female
grassy, bollinger County, Missouri, USA
September 12, 2010
Size: ~1.5 cm
Here is the architect with prey; I meant to say she resembles a robust Ancistrocerus. Has anyone heard of a digger wasp that builds an arched entrance to her nest? I have not. I guess nobody else finds this as exciting as i do...

It is exciting!
To my knowledge Euodynerus annulatus is the only species in its genus that constructs mud turrets over its nest entrance. Elsewhere in potter wasps Odynerus dilectus does it as well. It appears as though you are the first one to capture this nest type for Bugguide. Congratulations, that's amazing!

Thanks!
Yay! How wonderful.
Btw, I wouldn't mind if you put my shot of her with that caterpillar on her home page. :D
