July 9, 1989
Size: 25 mm
Collected at the base of a fairly rotten but still standing White Oak tree.

Texania campestris
This is the only specimen of this species that I have encountered. I have a friend from Pennsylvania who over the years reports good luck collecting these beetles on large dying American Beech trees in PA and MD in late June and July.

My brother and I have collected many of these from Sugar Maple here in TN. Most of them were hand collected but a few were even cut from there pupal chambers. We first spotted them in May and also encountered them in June and July.
Great photos.

better than
