Which Ant please.... - Camponotus novaeboracensis - Female

Fairly large ant, maybe about 1/2 inch? Seemed to be searching for something. I thought the marks on the red thorax quite distinctive although I have been unable to find a match.

This is a queen of Camponotus novaeboracensis that probably flew and mated in spring, then failed to raise any workers. Note her hungry condition, that is, her very small abdomen (depleted of fat reserves) compared to the queen in the thumbnail. This may explain why she was out "searching for something".

Possibly Camponotus novaeboracensis; when you see a really big ant look in Camponotus first.
