round galls - Pachypsylla celtidismamma

round galls - Pachypsylla celtidismamma
Warren Twp. , Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
September 18, 2010
not certain what tree. The red-black item (out of focus, sorry) is a berry on the tree. It has lots but not in panicles, and the bark is smooth. The gord is round with a dent and a "nipple". In park, so I didn't cut one open.

Hackberry
On searching for an ID for the tree, I believe it's a hackberry, which would likely make these things Hackberry Nipple Galls

Pachypsylla celtidismamma? Anyone agree?

(The fruit had one hard round seed and almost no flesh, and the leaf bases are very uneven.)

Yes on both counts
