This is a typical Plateumaris
- body rather stout and very shiny, legs robust.

The elytral suture widens toward apex,
or so it appears. It would be nice to have a full dorsal view to be sure, but I think these pix are moveable.

Donacia
Both the overall appearance and the habitat where you found it suggest genus Donacia.

Not so sure:-)
The subfamily would definitely be correct: Donaciinae. However, I think Donacia has been split. I just keyed out some beetles I 'thought' were Donacia, and they turned out to be in the related genus Plateumaris. The only way you can tell is by the elytral suture. In Plateumaris it is expanded at the posterior end. Pretty hard to detect without a microscope. I used the 'new' "American Beetles" manuals by Arnett to key them.

I agree
...that this one should be moved to the subfamily page until someone is able to sort these out. So far, the unfounded assumption at BugGuide has been that every Donaciinae is a
Donacia
, but based on species diversity alone, about one third of the images currently on the genus page could very well be
Plateumaris
species. See comments
