Small Milkweed Bug - Lygaeus turcicus

Small Milkweed Bug - Lygaeus turcicus
Mountville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA
March 11, 2005
I saw quite a lot of these that day.

Moved
Moved from Lygaeus.

white margin
. . . of wing membrane not really apparent, and basal half of clavus red (!), + head red to large extent - I´d say it is turcicus therefore.

Genus correct....
I'm not so sure this is L. kalmii, though. Wonderful image.

L. kalmii I think
I believe I see a white margin along the elytral membrane, which points to L. kalmii over L. turcicus.

Interesting, we just can't see what you
apparently see. To us this is absolutely identical to all the images currently on turcicus. We will move it to the genus page, since we don't agree, and that way these two images won't be lost among the dozens of images of kalmii, until consensus is reached.

Thanks!
I moved it to the genus page. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't like to let them on the wrong page. How many species are there in the genus that look similar to L. kalmii? Do you think some of the other photos on the L. kalmii page are the wrong ID?
