Size: 2 to 5 mm
The lake had accumulations of this stuff several inches thick at the shoreline and floating in large patches on the surface of the water as shown here. With the naked eye, I thought they might be cast pupal skins of some aquatic insect, but under magnification they definitely look more eggs.
