Black Fire Beetle - Melanophila acuminata

Size: 11 mm
Melanophila acuminata (DeGeer), the "Fire Bug" famously known for its habit of flocking to freshly burned and sometimes still smoldering pine trees to mate and oviposit (see species page at University of Alberta).
