Poecilognathus unimaculatus - male

Poecilognathus unimaculatus - Male
St. Lucie County, Florida, USA

Size: BL 5-7mm

Bombyliidae
A beefly and probably in the genus Phthiria? - Chen

Poecilognathus
This is Poecilognathus unimaculatus -- very common in Florida. It used to be in the genus Phthiria but that genus has been split into a number of separate genea and the true Phthiria are restricted to Europe, Asia, and Africa. All North American "Phthiria" belong in other genera now.

Did their range get extended since 2003 ?
I added comments on other BugGuide Poecilognathus species that P. unimaculatus has only been recorded from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico, according to your 2003 "World Catalog of Bee Flies."

Could you tell us the current range for this species ?

Thanks
for the update.

Thank
you, Chen.
