Recently hatched larva - Syssphinx hubbardi

Recently hatched larva - Syssphinx hubbardi
Miller Canyon, Huachuca Mountains, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
September 18, 2009
Size: Length 5 mm.
Recently hatched larva and eggshell. After a period of resting following emergence the larva ate much of the eggshell.
A clutch of eggs was obtained from a wild female and reared indoors on mesquite leaves, Prosopis velutina. Photographs that were not positively of the same individual were not linked.

Great sequence of images.
We posted them to the Info page under Life Cycle. We also moved the description into the Title so that information is visible when one hovers over the thumbnail. If you are unhappy with that, let us know and we can change them back. Wonderful work!
