While in Florida in March I spent an interesting evening at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park with a companionable group of moth lovers. My wife and I got to spend time with Carol Wolf and her husband, and with Jim Vargo, Charlie Covell and a number of other people from the Gainesville area. We had about 6 sheets and MV lights running in several areas of the park.

Also with us that evening was James Hayden who has recently been appointed Curator of Lepidoptera at the Florida State Collection of Arthropods (FL Mus. Nat. Hist., McGuire Center). Jim looked over our photographs and corrected the ID of my photo of what I thought was 5565 - Streptopalpia minusculalis. It is instead 5574 - Heliades mulleolella.

This led us to examine a number of specimens in Jim Vargo's collection and at the McGuire Center as well as photographs of several species shown at both MPG and here at BugGuide. I will post several notes of correction, as appropriate, here.

In this case, all eight photos shown here as 5565 - Streptopalpia minusculalis should be moved to 5574 - Meliades mulleolella. The wavy lines are diagnostic for that species.

We do have photos of Streptopalpia minusculalis, but they are currently masquerading under 5560.1 - Salobrena vacuana. I will post another note under that species.
