Is this an early-instar Rice Stinkbug nymph? Found in weedy field with many, many adults.

It's certainly possible...
But nymphs are tough (especially early instar nymphs). You might have to rear it to figure out what it's destined to become.

Rethinking...
I was looking through the images on Valerie's Austin Bug Collection on the internet. She has a picture that looks just like this one and identifies it as Mecidea major. Medicea major (or minor?) were also very numerous in the field where this was found.

... and it sure is a good match. Unfortunately, I know nothing about that Web site. If you know it to be accurate and authoritative, you are certainly free to move your image to
