Red Flat Bark Beetle? - Cucujus clavipes

Red Flat Bark Beetle? - Cucujus clavipes

Stow/Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
March 26, 2006
Size: ~12mm
Under the bark on a large white-pine snag. The most notable feature was how flat this beetle was. I don't think I ever saw one of these before, but a quick search on BugGuide turned up Cucujus clavipes. I couldn't get any good shots of it, but I doubt it could be anything else.

You got it, Peter!
I've found all mine under deciduous bark, but there's no mistaking this beetle.
