Just beautiful - Ornidia obesa - Male
Venice, Sarasota County, Florida, USA

I think this is one of the prettiest flies I have seen. The body glistened blue in the sun. Just a side note. Most of the insects I photograph are in my yard which is next to a wastewater plant. I have 4 wastewater effluent holding ponds in my back yard.

Male
It is a male as well. You can tell because the compound eyes meet in the middle. Keep an eye out for Copestylum mexicana as well. They look similar, only black and less iridescent.

Thank you
I certainly keep my eyes open for everything. I will check out the mexicana. And thank you for the sex differential.
