Araneus saevus - female

Araneus saevus - Female
Wrangell, Wrangell County, Alaska, USA
September 21, 2010
Size: 17 mm
My step-grandson brought me this giant he found at the landfill where he works. It probably crawled/blew in from the surrounding hemlock forest. The few I've seen have all had the tan band across the front of the abdomen, but the epigynum is the key to id.

Hi Susan
Can you provide a ventral shot that shows the entire venter of the spider? I don't think we have one of those for this species yet.
