Thank you for the correction. I just assumed it was a female because of the size. This was probably the largest male that I have ever seen then!

Large Male
This large male was hiding between the door and the frame of a sliding glass door in a house in Victoria. I grew up there, and these are the ubiquitous spider: in every attic, basement, shed and woodpile. They are the fastest true spider in the world, capable of almost 10 feet (3 meters) a second. They're also the biggest spider around. These traits, and the males' penchant for racing across floors and out of drains in their Autumn search for females has led to many raised heart rates among the resident arachnophobes.
