Soldierfly ? - Odontomyia

Soldierfly ? - Odontomyia
Livermore , Altamont creek, Alameda County, California, USA
September 30, 2010
Size: 1/2 "
At first , I thought this was a Hoverfly with it's stripes and shine , but I noticed that it has antennas like a Soldierfly . I saw more than one of this kind so I guess this is the time of year for this type of insect whom is very eye-catching with the shiny gold and the black stripes on subtle yellow and green shades . I would like to know more about this insect , thanks for any comments , sincerely Beth

Definitely a Soldier Fly. It reminds me of this Odontomyia, also from California:

But that's just an observation on my part. The experts will be able to confirm or (more likely) correct. :)
