I have seen this species nectaring on goldenrod and fall asters quite frequently over the last week or two. It is a bit larger than the other flower flies that I've been seeing lately.

It certainly looks like H. fasciatus, but since only 3 of 34 species are represented here at BG, I'm not ready to make that call...
