Want to know what this is. Found in my backyard, on flagstone. Plays dead when messed with.

We just gave you the Family
Someone else will give you the species. There is an article on raising caterpillars here. We're sure it is ready to cocoon, so just see what it says about handling them at that stage.

Thank You so much for the URL! Learned incredible amount of info, thanks to You. Fortunately for my purple caterpillar, he has dissapeared. Looked everywhere. So good luck to him and I'l look more closely to the moths of the species he belongs to because of this website. Thanks Again!!

Dear John & Jane,
Thank you for showing me where and what this animal is. It is now starting to get colder in Texas and wonder if it is too late for him to cocoon. He is still on my table outside, clutching to dead Hackberry leaves.

Love to know how to protect him and possibly see his transformation,
Pat
