his comment: "Although these beetles normally have dark, metallic elytra, pale individuals are not all that uncommon. I suspect that newly emerged adults are initially pale, and that it takes quite a few days before they darken up. There are two species of Scelida in southern Arizona. Based solely on the pictures provided, I cannot determine which of the two was photographed."
