(1) pg 14 "Ventral surface of each posterior femur margined anteriorly."

also at 40x you can see that the dorsal surface is densely granulated with mixed small and large granules

Yep, its pilularius
I have collected several of similar color near Gainesville, where they run from black to green to bronze. Canthon chalcities has finer, irregular pronotal tubercles (like torn pieces of tissue) vs. round tubercles in pilularius. Canthon vigilans' eyes are twice as wide--as wide as the genae.

The Scarab Beetles of Florida [cite]4889[/cite] pg 36

Key to the Florida sepcies of Canthon

calcities-
Head, pronotum, and pygidium wit uniform minute granules.............never bluish or greenish

I am confused but it keys out to this ....but I am still new to this could it pilularius

color...
Is it really this green or a product of photography? The eyes look wide, making me think this is C. vigilans. Although, I have found the concept of eye width to be open to interpretation. Specimens I have of vigilans from GA do not look as illustrated in text :).
