Thank you, John. I will try to remember to make closer crops. Can you tell me how to remove this photo from Bug Guide so that I can replace it with a closer crop?

Just crop the image on your computer, click "edit" on this picture, "browse" to the cropped image, and "submit". Only you and the editors can see your full-size images so the large border reduces the detail most people can see.

Thanks again, John. I have submitted several photos to Bug Guide that have needed adjustments after I submitted them, and I did not know how to do that. Your directions are most helpful. Is this cropping better?

Much better
By the way, if you also plan on having your images used at the Moth Photographers Group, they often prefer square crops. That would be cropping close to the bug on the long side, but not cropping the excess on the short side to make a square. Here are some examples http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/contrib_living.php?init=JMax and you can look through their live images for more examples. http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/Plates.shtml

Oh, I just found the instructions http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/Submit1.shtml

I wouldn't resize your images down, because BugGuide can still use the larger size.

Thank you for taking so much time to help me. I am a retired science teacher who still does a lot of substitute teaching and I have been using my small digital camera learn as much as possible about Wildwood Park in Radford, Va., about two miles form my house. I spend lots of time there taking photos of plants and critters and lots of time at my computer trying to figure out what I have captured. I have two mentors here in town - one for plants and one for crits. It has been a delightful way to discover the joys of nature.
