Size: 0.5 mm
The mites on this limoniine crane fly (Limonia (Discobola) annulata) appear to be inflicting severe mutilation of the host insect's thorax.

The mites are just phoretic,
The mites are just phoretic, along for the ride. They probably belong to the family Ascidae (broad sense), genus Chiroseius.
