Bed Bug - Cimex lectularius

Bed Bug - Cimex lectularius
Finland, Lake County, Minnesota, USA
May 18, 2005
Size: ~8mm
Found infesting two rooms at a camp.

Thank You!
It's real hard getting people to photograph the ordinary and unpleasant bugs. We had the guide page for this species for almost a year, but no pictures. I've moved it there.

Ordinary?
I've never seen one. Are they really that common?

bedbugs
I work for a pest control company and I see bedbugs in hotels and apartments on a monthly basis. They are making a come back and are very hard to get rid of.

Bed Bug Treatment - NEED HELP
Hi,

My house and beds were infected by these bugs. How can I get rid of them permanently? Please help. I have little children in my house. They are being bitten everyday. I cannot move out because its my own home. Should I go for a bug treatment. Will this help me?

And / or
I included bedbugs in the unpleasant category, not the ordinary. Bedbugs are more common than people realize because they usually don't come out except in the dark (a favorite hiding place is behind headboards where no one can reach). Even so, no one would ever consider them ordinary- seeing one is such a rare occurrence.

depends
Depends on the kind of lodgings you are in. Hostels, camps, fleabag motels and such are good places. When there is a big infestation, it is evident to anyone who sleeps in the bed in question. In addition, all the digested blood being voided stains sheets and mattresses. Finding the insects is usually a matter of checking crecives on the bed frame, near the bed, or in creases in the fabric of the mattress.

I did see
on the news the woman who is suing a hotel because of bed bugs. Related article here.

Wow!
20 million for some itchy skin? I get bad reactions to fire ant stings, should I sit on a mound in a MIckey D's to eat my Big Mac and the take ol' Ronnie for a couple mil?
America is a great and wonderful country indeed!

Wow. That's exactly what that is:Cimex lectularius, the Bed Bug. We're getting some great ectoparasites lately! Good find! (sorry if you got bit)
Believe it or not, that is a new species for Bugguide.

I didn't get bit
Nahh, I didn't get bit. Just a bunch of wealthy children. No lawsuits, yet. It's amazing the social stigma associated with things like bedbugs and head lice.

It took two extermination sessions to get rid of them. They were in every crevice, even inside the light switch covers.

That bites!

Here is a good article on art
Here is a good article on articles base about how to kill bed bugs.

The consequence of a byte is usually just a rash, nothing that can really put your health in jeopardy. But you are right, usually people who have any kind of bugs in their homes tend to be labeled as dirty or from a lower class. Even if you can get those bugs from 5 star hotels (like in the case of bed bugs).

Best regards,
Paul
