Gnathotrichus sulcatus - male

Gnathotrichus sulcatus - Male
Sandia Mnts, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA
September 13, 2010
Size: 3.4 mm
Found burrowing into the sawn end of a newly downed Spruce (Picea engelmanni) at about 11000' elevation. I used Wood, 1982 to ID- clear from the aciculate frons and reticulate pronotum. I also find these quite commonly in detritus at the base of dead conifers throughout NM.

Thanks
for these shots. I'm tackling a few Scolytines right now. These images were quite useful.

great
I'm very pleased that you found these useful. I love Bugguide as a resource and try to give back by posting taxa that are missing. If you don't already have it, check out Wood's 1982 publication in Great Basin Naturalist Memoirs, available on the web. It has all the detail needed to check your ID's.
