Sotol stalk imago, very new! - Thrincopyge alacris

Sotol stalk imago, very new! - Thrincopyge alacris
Organ Mts., Las Cruces, Dona Ana County, New Mexico, USA
March 31, 2006
Size: 18 mm approx.
It's a pupa no more. Now it needs some time to harden and for the elytral colors to develop. It's not very energetic yet, prefering to just lie still. Curious placement of its front feet.

final "ventrite"
Latest and best terminology for the character illustrated would be - final ventrite (was until recently most often called a sternite - long story why that has fallen out of favor). I wouldn't be too concerned about presence or absence of markings in this genus.

Jim, I still believe this is
Jim, I still believe this is the T. alacris. The other photo you showed of T. ambiens must be mislabeled. I do not know how to add a photo in my comment like you did, but go to the Harvard MCZ Type Database. Quick search for Thrincopyge. It should show you 3 species of that genus.
I hope this helps.

links - only 2 spp.
Thrincopyge alacris LeConte, 1858

Thrincopyge ambiens LeConte, 1854
=Thrincopyge laetifica Horn, 1885 even though now considered a junior synonym, doesn't change status of specimen as type

I think you're right, Joshua.
Certainly the specimens they used place this one in the T. alacris column.

I think he did his this way:

There's a more thorough explanation in this Help topic.
