Gargantua (The Unknown Caterpillar) - Agrius cingulata
Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA
September 12, 2010
Size: 6" x 1"
Taken on 09/12/10 at 8:2o A.M.in the high plains desert area of Altar Valley/Robles Junction/ThreePoints approx. 26 Miles West of Tucson, AZ.
This caterpillar was approx. 6 inches in length and 1 inch around.
It had several distinctive "eye" markings.
Docile but rapid moving.

looks like

Pink-spotted Hawkmoth - Hodges#7771 (Agrius cingulata)
and heres the moth

appears to be a Sphinx Moth caterpillar
I don't know which one though.
