Eastern Beach Tiger Beetle - Habroscelimorpha dorsalis

Eastern Beach Tiger Beetle - Habroscelimorpha dorsalis
Santa Rosa Island, Gulf Islands National Seashore, Escambia County, Florida, USA
June 24, 2010
Size: 1/2 inch
Is this Ellipsoptera gratiosa? It doesn't quite match the pictures already on the Guide. This one has a solid black head and less elytra markings. They were very common on the white sand Gulf beaches near Pensacola. We found them only a few miles from where the tar was just beginning to wash ashore and ruin the beaches.
