Small Syrphidae - Allograpta obliqua

Small Syrphidae - Allograpta obliqua
Hitchcock Nature Area, Honey Creek, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, USA
September 26, 2010
Size: ~ 7 mm
The size and shape reminds me of the Toxomerus marginatus I photographed earlier this year, but the abdominal pattern is different on this one...

Moved from obliqua or exotica.

Markings on tergite 2 are consistent with obliqua; see:

Moved from ID Request.

Allograpta obliqua
Proportionally longer and thinner than T. marginatus, but coloration can be quite close. Note oblique markings near end of abdomen, which point to species.

Thanks, Ron!
