These are of one individual, but several of these were spotted crossing the rocks in a dry area (rocks interspersed with puddles) near a creek.

The inverted "V" on the face
reminds me of the Yellow-striped Armyworm Moth (Spodoptera ornithogalli):



I can't find an exact match in the Guide; however, they appear to be quite variable.

But I could be way off, so wait to hear from the folks who actually know something about these critters. :)

Yello-striped Armyworm caterpillar has not that kind of hair(?) this image has...?
