badlands 3 km E and 1 km N of Avonlea sk, Saskatchewan, Canada

Size: 6 mm
very small bug (thanks Ken!/not a beetle!), found in badlands area of southern sk. Desertlike conditions. Hoodoos, sand, rock, cactus. Beetle found on underside of sandy outcropping in the shade, not near vegetation. Would like Oct on the Sask data map.

Not a beetle...
Looks like the Two-spotted Stink Bug (Perillus bioculatus). Here's another from Saskatchewan (they vary quite a bit):
