Leptotyphlinae - female

Leptotyphlinae - Female
Sandia Mnts., Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA
October 9, 2010
Size: 0.94 mm
Here is an amazing one. In detritus collected at 10000' elev. This tiny blind, flightless Staph is probably an undescribed Genus. The others in this subfamily are mostly from CA except one from Alaska and one from Florida.
Addendum: I've sent some to Vladimir Gusarov and he has verified that all my specimens are female. He suspects that these are parthenogenic. I have now collected over 50 specimens and all are female.

Hi Rick,
What equipment do you use for a photo of a small fry like this?

nothing special
My photos don't come out very good. I am stacking images (CombineZM) taken through the microscope using a homemade specimen translator controlled by the computer. The results are so-so, not really high quality like Ed Ruden's and so many others here. I'm a collector, not a photographer.

unbelievable
Moved from Rove Beetles.

whoa!
Awesome find! What a beast.
