Aleocharinae sp.? - Myrmoecia lauta

Aleocharinae sp.? - Myrmoecia lauta
Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
April 2, 2006
Size: 4mm
This rove beetle was running around in a colony of Odorous ants under a rock. Could it have been feeding on them?

Thank you Munetoshi
Welcome to bugguide. It's great to have your expertise to get a species identification on an Aleocharin.

Moved
Identified by Borie Bueche as an ant-hunting rove beetle, genus Zyras.

Myrmoecia lauta (Casey)
Hello, this is my first posting. I am a postdoc of Field Museum, and majoring in systematics of myrmecophilous Aleocharinae. This is Myrmoecia lauta (Casey). Myrmoecia was formerly arranged as a subgenus of Zyras, so Zyras is not incorrect. Though all the species of Myrmoecia are considered as guest of ants of Tapinoma, this is the first host record for this species.

Some info on this genus are available in the following papers:
http://www.myrmecophile.net/maruyama/papers/Klimaszewskial2005-Zyrasini.pdf
http://www.myrmecophile.net/maruyama/papers/canada.pdf

Thank you.

and here it is.
Probably easily identifiable by the one person in the world who knows Aleocharinaes.

It's not you?
And I thought you were the one person who knows Aleocharinaes. :-)

What I know
What I know is to stay away from them.
