Shot in a dried wetland area. a tiny Stinkbug (10 mm), but beautifully marked.

Mormidea lugens
This is definitely Mormidea lugens. The white transverse lines behind the head are diagnostic, at least for U.S. species.

looks like Perillus or, better yet, Mormidea
This looks like genus Perillus, described in Slater, How to Know the True Bugs, pp. 45-46. (1) I don't see an exact match to this pattern. Nice photo of a species: Insects of Cedar Creek.

A better(?) possibility, Mormidea, see Insects of Cedar Creek--M. lugens. Slater describes genus, but does not illustrate, says about 5 North American species. Nearctica.com lists four species. Bob Patterson has a photo of Mormidea from Florida, looks close. Bob appears to be an excellent amateur entomologist, so that is looking pretty good.

Wow, Stinkbugs are hard! Oh well, those are some possibilities. I'm feeling humbled, which is probably a good thing.

Mormidea
Thanks Patrick,

Ceder Creek also mentions that they are small and common. I've encountered quite a few on my hikes. So I will narrow it down to Mormidea for now, until someone can find a key to finish the job:)
