Tomato product - Epiphyas postvittana - female

Tomato product - Epiphyas postvittana - Female
Alameda County, California, USA
October 6, 2010
Size: ~18 mm
Tomato skin peeled away to expose the caterpillar; noon. I covered the cavity lightly with paper after taking the picture. Nevertheless, within a few hours, the caterpillar had made a partial repair to its "ceiling" with silk. That evening, it moved to a nest in the paper towel lining the container.

This specimen was kept in a room whose average temperature is about the same as the temperature outdoors at that time of year.
