Another - Euodynerus pratensis - Male
Desoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
September 26, 2010
This looks like one that I posted earlier, but perhaps better pictures. These were quite common from July through October. I found this one on Baccharis neglecta.

Check out Euodynerus
They're on the stubby side and some are colored much like this.

Thanks, Ron.
I THINK they're E. pratensis, which I have posted before, but just when I think I have a handle on an ID I find I'm way off base! (By the way, what does 'pratensis' mean? I see that it is the moniker for several species.)

RE: pratensis
I tried Google's translation tool with no results. The word seems to have something to do with the color blue. Perhaps Chuck Entz will see this and comment.

Big Ah-Ha!
It means "of a meadow" and has been attached to the names of grasses and such. Don't know why it didn't turn up before - a simple Google search got it this time.

Thanks!
I never thanked you for your research!
